Russia's war against Ukraine may end during Cyprus' presidency of the European Union, which will last until June 30. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during his speech at the opening ceremony of Cyprus' presidency of the Council of the EU.
According to him, peace negotiations with European partners, the United States, and all participants in the "coalition of the willing" have reached a new milestone.
"We sincerely hope that this war can end during your presidency," - said the president.
Zelenskyy said that Ukraine expects "a lot" from the Cyprus presidency. In particular, it is about progress on Ukraine's path to the EU.
"A country (Cyprus — ed.) that may be small in size but has an equal voice in European institutions — that says a lot about what constitutes a true Europe," — he said.
As the president added, Ukraine hopes that all clusters of negotiations will be open for it and Moldova.
"During your presidency, we hope to see the start of the implementation of the aid package for Ukraine, which will help strengthen our resilience and the resilience of all of Europe," — Zelenskyy drew attention.
It is worth noting that Cyprus assumed the presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1. It will last until June 30.
