About 100 people have already left Nagorno-Karabakh, which came under the control of Azerbaijan, to Armenia - that's more than 80% of the region's population, reports Radio Azatutyun.
On September 30, the spokeswoman of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nazeli Baghdasaryan, said that as of Saturday morning, 100 residents of Karabakh had already crossed the border of Armenia.
According to the 2015 census, about 145 people lived in Nagorno-Karabakh, almost all of them ethnic Armenians. However, with the latest news about the mass exodus of the population from Karabakh, it became known that the actual number of the population in 2023 was smaller, and more than 90 thousand is already more than 80% of those who lived in the region.
Over the past two days, buses made about 90 flights between Stepanakert (Azerbaijani name - Khankendi) and the border towns of Armenia, which made it possible to transport almost 3000 residents of the region. Many refugees use their own and improvised transport.
Among them, more than 220 patients injured in a powerful explosion at a gasoline storage facility and 114 injured as a result of hostilities on September 19-20 were brought to Armenia.
