British Eurofighters patrol Polish skies

British Eurofighter jets have begun patrolling Polish skies as part of NATO's air defence mission following recent violations by Russia. Reuters.

According to UK Defense Secretary John Healy, this operation is a clear signal to Moscow: "NATO airspace will be protected."

So, on Friday evening, two RAF Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets took off from a military base in eastern England. They patrolled Polish skies to deter and repel potential Russian threats, including UAVs. Both aircraft successfully returned to the UK early on Saturday morning, September 20.

The British government stressed that the mission was a response to the “most significant violation” of NATO airspace by Russian President Vladimir Putin since the start of his illegal full-scale war in Ukraine.

The Commander-in-Chief of the UK Air Force, Air Marshal Harve Smith, noted that British fighter jets are working alongside allies on NATO's eastern flank.

"We remain mobile, integrated, and ready to project aviation power at a distance," he declared.

The British government also confirmed its intention to increase defense spending to 2,6% of GDP by April 2027, demonstrating its willingness to support Europe's security alongside the United States. Earlier, US President Donald Trump criticized European countries for insufficient defense funding and excessive dependence on the United States.
