Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Teofil Bartoszewski, after the statements of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán directed against Poland, expressed doubts about the necessity of Hungary's membership in the EU and NATO. The agency reports PAP.
The deputy head of the Polish Foreign Ministry emphasized that, unlike Orban, his country does not do business with Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, "because it was an attack on both Poland and the United States, the European Union and NATO."
Bartoszewski emphasized that Orban's speech was already commented very negatively by the US Embassy in Budapest.
"I don't really understand why Hungary wants to remain a member of organizations that they don't like so much and that allegedly treat them badly. Why should he (Orban. - ed.) not create an alliance with Putin and with some authoritarian states of this type? This is based on the principle that if you don't want to be a member of a club, you can always leave. This is definitely an anti-European, anti-Ukrainian, anti-Polish policy (of Hungary. - ed.) at this time."
Bartoszewski reminded that Hungary is also blocking two billion zlotys (467 million euros) from the European Peace Fund, assigned to Poland from the EU for compensation for military equipment received by Ukraine.
The day before, during a program speech within the framework of the "Tusvanos Summer University" in the Romanian resort town of Beile Tusnad, the Prime Minister of Hungary stated that the Poles "conduct the most hypocritical and hypocritical policy in all of Europe" because they allegedly "shamelessly conduct business" with Russia .
Relations between Warsaw and Budapest have cooled since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, due to differences in attitudes towards that invasion. However, until now Orban has not allowed himself such frank criticism of Poland.
