Poland insists: 17th package of EU sanctions against Russia must be adopted by July 1

EC

Poland aims to agree on the 17th package of EU sanctions against Russia by July 1. The new package includes restrictions on the export of chemical substances and sanctions against companies. This is reported by Polish Radio 24.

EU Affairs Minister Adam Szlapka, speaking in the European Parliament, stated that sanctions should remain an important tool for pressure on the Russian war economy.

According to him, work on a new sanctions package has already begun and should be completed by the end of the Polish presidency of the EU.

The European Commission has already sent a draft of the 17th package of sanctions to the capitals of EU member states. Among the new restrictions is a ban on the export to Russia of chemicals used in rocket engines.

In addition, another 15 people and 45 companies specializing in the military-industrial complex were added to the blacklist.

The European Union will also increase pressure on Russia's shadow fleet, in particular on vessels that violate international sanctions by transporting Russian oil at prices above established limits.

Shlapka emphasized that pressure on Russia should be comprehensive and accompanied by the provision of weapons to Ukraine to strengthen its positions before possible ceasefire negotiations.

The Polish minister stated that Ukraine must be in a position of strength to be able to conclude a profitable agreement and ensure its implementation in the future.
