Poland can grant residence permits to all refugees

Poland

Ukrainian refugees in Poland are offered residence permits after temporary protection. All persons with status will be able to get them PESEL number UKR.

Such a proposal for changes to the law is made by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, reports naszwybir.pl.

Temporary protection for Ukrainians in Poland is being prepared to be extended until March or even September 2025. After that, all Ukrainians with PESEL UKR status are offered to issue temporary residence permits ("temporary residence cards").

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland spoke about such changes Maciej Duszyk.

"We have prepared a system that will allow all persons with PESEL UKR to obtain a temporary residence permit. Whether they are working or not, pensioners or students, children under 6 or older. It will be an automatic system that, with the help of one provision, will change the status of temporary protection to the status of temporary residence." - explained the government official.

He noted that Ukrainians will have the right to choose whether to remain under the temporary protection of PESEL UKR or switch to a temporary residence permit.

For Ukrainians, a system of obtaining temporary residence permits will be created, which will be issued not in voivodeship administrations, but in separate bodies, which should facilitate quick issuance.

Ukrainians who want to get a "broken card" will have to register on the new electronic portal from July 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025. Also, visit the administration of cities or communes to submit the necessary documents.

Applicants will be screened by the Homeland Security Agency, the Border Patrol and the police. The first temporary residence permits will begin to be issued in 2025. They will be valid for 3 years.

"A person's status will legally change only when he personally comes and collects a temporary residence permit. Until then, she will be under temporary protection." - noted Macei Duschyk.

Temporary protection for Ukrainians in Poland will continue as long as it is possible on the basis of EU regulations.
