US Presidential envoy Steve Witkoff said that Russia has made concessions regarding five regions of Ukraine. This is reported by Clash Report citing comments by Witkoff to CNN.
According to a representative of the American president, this issue was not discussed during the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska on August 15.
At the same time, he added that the issue of "territorial exchange" will be discussed at the meeting between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday, August 18, in Washington.
"Trump understands that it is the Ukrainians who should decide how to exchange land or negotiate with the Russians regarding territories. That is why Zelensky and European leaders are going to meet with the US president on Monday to make this decision," — said Witkoff.
In addition, on the air CNN channel Witkoff added: “The US and Russia have agreed on security guarantees for Ukraine, but now everything depends on Ukraine.” They, he said, will have to work “by analogy with Article 5 of the NATO treaty.” Trump’s special envoy also added that on Monday, in particular, the issue of territories will be discussed.
In addition, as he noted, Russia will have to stipulate in its Constitution that it "will not attack European countries."
Journalist for the American publication Axios, Barak Ravid, citing a source familiar with the content of the negotiations between Trump and Putin, revealed that the president of the aggressor state expressed his willingness to freeze the front in the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions in exchange for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk region.
