NATO Secretary General Marko Rutte said that the increase in the Alliance's military spending is only the first step, as NATO now plans to rapidly expand its military industry. He announced this during the NATO summit, write The Guardian.
Rutte said the summit laid the foundation for a “stronger, fairer and more effective” Alliance. The new investment plan, which he called a “quantum leap” in defense spending, will strengthen NATO’s readiness to face challenges.
"This means that regardless of the challenges we face, whether from Russia, terrorism, cyberattacks, sabotage or strategic competition, this alliance is and will remain ready, willing and able to defend every inch of allied territory and ensure that our billion people can continue to live in freedom and security," – the Secretary General emphasized.
