The final document of the upcoming NATO summit will likely ignore the promise to admit Ukraine to the Alliance in the future. This is reported by Bloomberg.
According to the publication, the draft final document of the summit does not include the prospect of Ukraine joining the military Alliance. At the same time, the communiqué of previous summits called Ukraine's membership in NATO inevitable.
Bloomberg also writes that the draft communiqué does not include a commitment to provide Ukraine with $40 billion in military aid. This decision was made by the Alliance member countries following last year's summit.
The draft communiqué focuses exclusively on defense spending, a stark contrast to last year's final statement, which was over 5000 words long and included a promise of long-term security assistance to Ukraine.
The publication's sources note that not only the final statement, but also the summit itself will be brief. Only a dinner with the King of the Netherlands and a single working meeting on defense spending are planned. This is how NATO wants to avoid public disputes between President Donald Trump and the allies.
