The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremin, has decided to open a state control measure. He commented Verka Serdyuchka's performance in Kyiv on June 13, during which, in particular, Russian-language songs were performed.
"We have signs of a gross violation of Articles 23 and 29 of the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language" - in terms of the use of the state language in the sphere of culture and during public events. "I appeal to the National Police of Ukraine to respond appropriately. We will not allow the linguistic presence of the aggressor state to be legalized again in the Ukrainian capital under the guise of "entertainment". This is not just about the law - it is about national dignity. And there will be responsibility," — Taras Kremin emphasized.
The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language recalled that in accordance with paragraph 2 of Article 23 of the Language Law, "the language of cultural, artistic, entertainment and spectacular events is the state language. The use of other languages during such events is permitted if it is justified by the artistic, creative idea of the organizer of the event, as well as in cases specified by law on the procedure for implementing the rights of indigenous peoples and national minorities of Ukraine. The provisions of this part do not apply to the use of languages during the performance and/or reproduction of songs, other musical works with text, phonograms."
Representatives of Andriy Danylko also referred to Law No. 2310-IX of June 19.06.2023, XNUMX, which "does not prohibit the performance of author's songs in Russian by citizens of Ukraine who do not have citizenship of the aggressor state and are not subject to other restrictions."
