US peace plan envisages Ukraine joining the EU in early 2027, — FT

Ukraine, in the event of a peace agreement and an end to the war, will join the European Union by January 1, 2027. This item is being discussed in negotiations with the participation of the United States and European countries. This is reported by Financial Times.

It is noted that Ukraine's accession by January 1, 2027, is envisaged in the draft peace proposal being discussed by officials from the US, Ukraine and the European Union, informed sources told the publication. Such a fast deadline, the interlocutors say, would simply turn the EU's entire approach to accepting new members upside down.

Ukraine has still not officially completed even one of the 36 stages of EU accession. At the same time, the bloc accepts new members only based on the results of their passing of these stages. The above-mentioned point of the peace agreement will force Brussels to revise the system completely.

Officials who support Ukraine's accession have noted that including this clause in the peace agreement would make Kyiv's membership a fait accompli, as Brussels would risk derailing the peace signing by opposing a quick deadline.

At the same time, US President Donald Trump will be able to silence Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who has so far been blocking Ukraine's EU accession process. Trump can simply order Orban to lift his veto and not obstruct Ukraine's accession.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during conversations with journalists, noted that Ukraine has formed an approach to a number of points of the peace agreement, taking into account the fact that Ukraine will become a member of the EU.

"The issue of Ukraine's future membership in the EU largely depends on the Europeans, and actually, on the Americans as well. Because if we conclude an agreement that will determine when Ukraine will become a member of the EU, the Americans, as a party to this agreement, will do everything to ensure that our European path is not blocked by other people in Europe, over whom they have influence," - he emphasized.
