"For the third week, the Ministry of Defense is actively investigating the causes of the abnormal activation of 120 mm mines. The absence of comments in the public space does not mean that the Ministry of Defense is inactive or does not respond to information that comes from the military or appears, in particular, in the mass media. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense works in a closed perimeter to ensure maximum efficiency and security. After all, due to the ongoing Russian aggression, information about the progress of the work is sensitive, so it remains with limited access.", - reported in the publication.
It is noted that currently the Ministry of Defense has suspended the use of the specified batches of ammunition in the Defense Forces, as well as their issuance to combat units, until the determination of the causes of the abnormal firing is completed.
A batch of delivered ammunition was withdrawn for further research. Instead, imported mines will be supplied.
It is reported that the preliminary results of the investigation of the interdepartmental commission into the supply of low-quality 120-mm mortar mines indicate the possible causes of the defects, in particular, low-quality powder charges or violations of the conditions of storage of ammunition, which led to their damage.
The MOU notes that the State Bureau of Investigation has initiated criminal proceedings based on this fact: "According to the results of the work of the interdepartmental commission, appropriate personnel decisions will be made regarding responsible officials. The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that it is the customer of the specified type of weapons for the Defense Forces. At the same time, the executor of the state order is the Ministry of Strategic Industries."
It is also reported that the interdepartmental commission will conduct an inspection of mortar mines of other calibers for compliance with production standards, quality of components and their storage conditions.
