According to the American edition of The Wall Street Journal, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation continues to put pressure on the leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin, with the demand to announce a new wave of mobilization in order to attract additional troops and compensate for the Kremlin's losses on the battlefield in Ukraine. Notifies The Wall Street Journal with reference to a source in Moscow.
The publication writes that at the beginning of 2024, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, headed by Sergei Shoigu, offered Putin a mobilization before his so-called "inauguration", but he refused, insisting on the use of only volunteers who sign contracts.
In July, Putin tried to increase the size of the military by doubling the one-time payment for new recruits to 400 rubles, or about $000.
Now, as the WSJ claims with reference to sources, the Russian Defense Ministry, already under the leadership of Belousov, is once again experiencing problems with a lack of manpower, due to which Russia cannot organize a large counteroffensive in the Kursk region.
"More and more people are saying that mobilization is inevitable", - said one of the interlocutors of WSJ.
The Wall Street Journal notes that the pressure to hold another wave of mobilization is intensified by the fact that the number of victims of the war in Ukraine has reached approximately one million.
"Russia's problems are becoming increasingly acute. After Moscow's troops took an active part in the capture of the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, Russia turned to young and inexperienced conscripts and withdrew troops from other areas of the front line in Ukraine to protect Russian territory." - writes WSJ.
The publication also notes that the Kremlin fears that another mobilization could upset the balance in the perception of the war by Russian society, creating political risks for Putin.
