British Defense Minister Grant Shapps stated that China began providing Russia with lethal weapons for use in the war against Ukraine. During a defense conference in London, Shapps said that the intelligence services of Great Britain and the United States had received information about such deliveries.
Thus, for the first time, the British side officially accused Beijing of seeking to supply Moscow with weapons for use in the war against Ukraine.
"We have evidence that Russia and China are cooperating in the field of military equipment for use in Ukraine, - Shapps said. — American and British defense intelligence have evidence that lethal aid is already flowing or will flow from China to Russia and Ukraine, and I consider this a significant development," said Shepps.
According to him, London is concerned about such information, because from the very beginning the Chinese side would like to present itself as a deterrent to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile, Shapps did not provide evidence to support his claim, the authors of the publication noted. But he still said that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the trade turnover between Moscow and Beijing has increased by 64% and "they cover each other's backs."
