Cyber fraud under the guise of assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine: Ukrainians are urged to be vigilant and join the "GATE" project

police

New cases of fraud under the guise of collecting funds for the needs of the Armed Forces have been recorded in Ukraine. In particular, one citizen reported an incident when, having received a request for support from a friend, she transferred funds to a supposedly verified website. Instead, she received an obscene message in Russian.

This is another example of a large-scale phishing campaign, when attackers send fake requests for help on behalf of official structures. Cyberpolice emphasizes: such pseudo-collections not only steal money, but also discredit real assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Pseudo-collections harm the army more than the enemy. Every hryvnia should work for victory, not for the pockets of scammers. Assistance should be real, not fake," — says the official police statement.

How to avoid becoming a victim of fraud:

✅ Transfer funds only through official funds, verified platforms, or familiar volunteers.
❌ Do not click on suspicious links.
❌ Never enter bank card details on third-party resources.
✅ If in doubt, don't act blindly, check.

How to join the fight against fakes — the BRAMA project

Ukrainians are urged to become part of a social project "GATEWAY", created on the initiative of volunteer organizations in cooperation with the Cyber Police of Ukraine.

As noted by Police Captain Andriy Parkhomenko, Head of the 9th Department of the Cybercrime Countermeasures Department in Kyiv, the main goal of the project is to clear the information space of Russian disinformation, propaganda, and illegal content.

"We don't just respond to threats - we form a digital shield. Every Ukrainian can become a part of it," – Parkhomenko emphasized.

All you need to join is a smartphone, a computer, and a willingness to spend a few minutes on an important cause. Participants gain access to suspicious materials and submit complaints to the relevant platforms. The more complaints, the better the chances of blocking dangerous content.
