The Wilfrid Martens Center for European Studies together with the Political Academy of the Austrian People's Party organized 26th European Forum: "A New Era for European Security", which took place on November 4, 2022 in Vienna. The main theme of the event is the future of Ukraine and EU-NATO synergy in the field of security and defense. People's deputies Yulia Tymoshenko and Hryhoriy Nemyrya represented Ukraine at the forum.
Yulia Tymoshenko, head of the Batkivshchyna party, noted that today it is becoming obvious that the former world order no longer exists, "but nothing has taken its place yet. However, it can already be said that the winners of this war against the Kremlin will write the rules of the new world order. Therefore, our joint victory in Ukraine is mandatory, and it concerns the entire free world."
According to her, "Ukrainians have always believed that there was no reason for a full-scale war, and it should not affect us, but as it turned out, this issue cannot be taken lightly. It is enough to listen to Putin's latest speeches to understand that Ukraine is only the first step. His goal is different: to make the war in Ukraine a rallying point for all global forces who no longer want the leadership of the West, who are no longer satisfied with the current world order and the norms of international law, who seek to redraw borders by force in order to create their empires."
In addition, Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized that "the war of liberation that we are waging today, from every point of view, has become a wake-up call for the West." From a security and political perspective, the Russian invasion rebooted the West, returning it to the sense of moral purpose and political unity that existed at the time of its creation.
"The West needed a clear goal to begin to overcome its weaknesses, and now it has appeared - the creation of a new security architecture. The starting point on the way to achieving this goal will be our joint victory in the war with you!" Yulia Tymoshenko stressed.
In turn, the First Deputy Chairman of the VRU Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hryhoriy Nemyrya, during his speech at the 26th Vienna European Forum, noted that the war in Ukraine is a test for all institutions responsible for maintaining peace and world order, which was established after the end Cold War.
"Now we all observe the inability to prevent or stop the war on the part of the UN and the OSCE - institutions that embody the old world order. When a permanent member of the UN Security Council, grossly violating the UN Charter, invaded the territory of its neighbor - a country that is one of the founders of the UN, and by the use of force seized a part of its territory - the powerlessness and inability of the UN became obvious to everyone. The old world order no longer exists, and the new one has not yet been formed," the politician said.
The forum was attended by Minister of Defense of Austria Claudia Tanner, Deputy Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Public Diplomacy Carmen Romero, Chairman of the EU Military Committee Robert Briger, high-ranking EU officials and politicians.
