A video released by the Associated Press shows the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fleet seizing the container ship MSC ARIES. In the footage, you can see that militants raid the ship with the help of a helicopter.
According to the media, the ship MSC ARIES sails under the flag of Portugal. The container ship is associated with the London-based company Zodiac Maritime. The firm is part of the Zodiac Group of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz accused Iran of piracy after Iranian forces seized a container ship.
"I call on the European Union and the free world to immediately declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization and immediately impose sanctions on Iran." he said.
The last time an Israeli ship was spotted near Dubai, it was heading for the Strait of Hormuz. The container ship's crew turned off the tracking data, which was common for Israeli ships moving through the region.
It is worth noting that the Strait of Hormuz is a strategically important strait connecting the Gulf of Oman with the Persian Gulf. The northern coast belongs to Iran, and the southern coast to the United Arab Emirates and Musand, an exclave of Oman.
