Potato imports from China to Russia reached almost $11 million in the first quarter of 2025, which is 25 times more than a year earlier. About this reported the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council.
The report states that the potato shortage in Russia was caused by a decrease in planting areas - it was not profitable for farmers to grow this vegetable. An additional factor was a poor harvest.
It is noted that in some regions, potato prices are higher than oranges or bananas.
"The Russian government has created conditions under which it becomes unprofitable to engage in agriculture. The high discount rate has made loans practically inaccessible to small and medium-sized businesses.", — the Central Public Health Center said.
