The European Parliament called on NATO to invite Ukraine to the Alliance

Deputies of the European Parliament called on NATO countries to fulfill their obligations to Ukraine and invite it to join the Alliance. This was reported in  press service of the European Parliament.

The corresponding resolution was supported by 425 deputies, 38 spoke against and 42 abstained.

In particular, in the resolution, the MEPs expressed the expectation that "the accession process will begin after the end of the war and will be completed as soon as possible."

As emphasized in the European Parliament, until Ukraine achieves full membership, the European Union and its NATO member states and allies should work closely with Ukraine to develop a temporary framework for security guarantees that should be implemented immediately after the war.

The resolution notes that the integration of Ukraine into NATO and the European Union will strengthen regional and global security, as well as strengthen the connection between Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic community.

The European Parliament hopes that negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union will begin this year.

In addition, the deputies emphasized that the destruction of Kakhovskaya HPP is a war crime. They condemned the undermining of the dam in the most severe manner.
