The European Commission has agreed with Ukraine to allocate 2 billion euros for the production of drones. The funding should help strengthen defense capabilities and develop high technologies. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen before the start of a security meeting of the European Commission College in Brussels, reports The Guardian.
"If we continue to believe that Ukraine is our first line of defense, we must increase military assistance to Ukraine. That is why we have specifically agreed with Ukraine that a total of 2 billion euros will now be spent on drones," — von der Leyen said.
According to her, the funding should help Ukraine strengthen its own defense capabilities and at the same time develop high technologies useful for the European Union.
"This allows Ukraine to scale and use its full potential. And of course, it will also allow the EU to benefit from this technology," she explained.
