Georgia wants to become a member of the EU by 2030, along with South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which are currently under Russian occupation. About this said Georgian Prime Minister Iraklia Kobakhidze on the X social network.

The statement was made by the Georgian Prime Minister in his congratulations on the Independence Day of Georgia.

"Our Georgian dream is to live in a united and strong Georgia together with our Abkhazian and Ossetian brothers and sisters by 2030. A united and strong Georgia should become a full member of the European family in 2030." Kobakhidze wrote on the X social network.

Russia's occupation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia began during the Russian-Georgian war in August 2008. After a short but intense conflict, Russia recognized the "independence" of both Georgian regions, established military bases there and considerable influence.

Georgia and most of the international community, including Ukraine, consider these territories occupied by Russia.

Today, however, Georgia's European future is under threat due to the scandalous law on foreign agents, which was approved by the Georgian parliament in May. The law is analogous to Russian legislation and may limit the rights of non-governmental organizations and independent media that have foreign funding.

The EU and NATO warned Georgia that the approval of this law could become an obstacle for Georgian European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Moreover, the EU is now proposing to cancel the visa-free regime for Georgia, and the USA is planning to introduce sanctions against the authors of the scandalous law.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili does not support the law on foreign agents and vetoed it. However, the Georgian parliament plans to override the president's veto and finally approve the document in June.
