The Polish Minister of Defense stressed the need for concrete steps in the nuclear sphere

Polish Defense Minister Michal Kosyniak-Kamysz said the country should invest in developing its own research and development capabilities in the field of nuclear potential. He said this at a press conference in Krakow on Monday, commenting on recent words by Polish President Karol Nawrocki about the possibility of developing its own nuclear weapons, reports PAP.

On Sunday, Nawrocki noted that he supports Poland's joining the nuclear project and developing its own potential in full compliance with international norms.

Commenting on this, Kosyniak-Kamysh emphasized that “when it comes to nuclear potential, it is better to act than just discuss plans and intentions.” According to him, this
"the most sensitive of sensitive topics," which requires concrete actions and decisions, not lengthy discussions.

The minister also recalled NATO mechanisms, including the joint use of nuclear weapons and the so-called nuclear umbrella, which involves countries that do not have their own nuclear warheads in the planning and potential use of American nuclear forces in Europe. He noted that French President Emmanuel Macron's openness to discussing expanding nuclear protection for allies was "welcome."

Poland signed and ratified the 1969 Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The document prohibits the transfer of nuclear weapons to any other country and obliges signatories to cease nuclear weapons testing.
