G7 counts on Trump's support for Ukraine security guarantees, — FT

Next week, Kyiv's G7 allies will meet with US President Donald Trump in Davos to seek his personal support for security guarantees for Ukraine after a ceasefire. This was reported by Financial Times.

"The leaders of Italy, Germany, France, Canada and the UK, as well as the head of the European Commission, plan to participate in a planned leaders' meeting with Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the World Economic Forum next week," — four officials familiar with the plans said.

In particular, officials are negotiating details of a meeting scheduled for Jan. 21 that could include other leaders of the “coalition of the willing.” National security advisers from the coalition also plan to hold a separate meeting, officials said.

Bloomberg reports that the Davos meeting of leaders is expected to seek Trump's approval for agreements considered critical to preventing another war and reached last week in Paris. The meeting is a "coalition of the determined" meeting that included Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and the commander of European defense forces.

"The leaders of Italy, Germany, France, Canada and the UK will seek the personal support of the US president on the issue of security guarantees," — the publication states.

At the same time, Europe is concerned about the extent of the US president's personal support for Ukraine if there is a peace agreement with Russia. Doubts are raised by a series of incidents over the past year in which he made sharply pro-Russian statements about the conflict.

"None of this will happen without the US. It is still unclear what Trump is really thinking," — explained one of the European officials who participated in the negotiations, referring to the promises of Britain and France to send troops to Ukraine after the ceasefire.

The publication added that the presence of the six leaders, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, would be a record for the G7 countries at the Davos event.

Let us remind you that Zelensky informed about hearing the report of the negotiating group on contacts with the American side and instructed to finalize the document on security guarantees.
