French President Emmanuel Macron gave advice to the European Union after the victory of Republican candidate Donald Trump in the US elections. The politician believes that now is the time for a coordinated strategy. This was stated by the spokesperson of the French government, Maud Brejon, BFM TV reports.
Brejon explained that Macron not only congratulated Trump on his election victory, but also discussed the topic with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"They know each other, they have already worked together for 4 years, and the president (Macron, ed.) explained during this Council of Ministers that our role was not to comment on the choices of sovereign nations, but it was necessary, with on the other hand, the European strategic awakening," — explained the speaker.
She noted that the president emphasized that France should raise its voice in Europe for greater sovereignty in order to preserve unity.
"Europeans must take responsibility. What we do not do ourselves, no one will do for us. This applies to defense, trade and agriculture. And that the temptation should not be for "everyone for himself", not for bilateral relations, but for a coordinated European strategy," — the speaker quoted Macron.
