Earlier, the Finnish parliament passed a law that allows the defense ministry to block real estate deals for individuals or organizations whose state has launched a war of aggression or may pose a threat to Finland's security.

The Ministry of Defense noted that according to decisions of the Council of the European Union and information from the authorities, Russia and Belarus meet these criteria.

Applications for permits for real estate transactions from citizens of Russia and Belarus submitted before the date the decree enters into force will be considered in the usual manner.

The regulation was published for comments today, May 23. The comment period ends on June 9. The ministry wants to adopt the regulation during June.

Before the law was passed in April, Finnish law allowed the sale of real estate to Russians to be blocked based on a decision by the Ministry of Defense in each specific case if it posed risks to national security.
