Former Minister Kuleba explained his words about Ukrainians' readiness to "fight with shovels"

Criticism of his words about Ukrainians' readiness to "fight with shovels" still lingers.

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that high positions unfortunately entail a certain amount of "hate" on social media, which government officials have to get used to. But criticism of his words about Ukrainians' readiness to "fight with shovels" still lingers. About this he said in a candid conversation with journalist Natalia Moseychuk.

Kuleba explained that at that time the issue was whether the United States would provide weapons to Ukraine. To convince partners of the need to provide military support to our state, a “strong, emotional image, a metaphor” was needed.

"These are Americans, they had to explain everything in a simple way. And it turns out that what I said in America to knock out weapons for Ukraine turned out for me that Kuleba supposedly sends everyone to fight with shovels," the former minister added.

He noted that as Foreign Minister, he mainly dealt with issues of weapons for the Ukrainian army, which is perhaps why criticism of his emotional words is so striking.

"But when you spend 80% of your time doing just that, and you get results that no one expected and that exceed all expectations, and then they accuse you of sending people with shovels to war, to be honest, it's annoying," he said.

Recall, amid delays in approving new aid to Ukraine from the United States in January 2024, Dmytro Kuleba stated in an interview with ABC News that "even if we run out of weapons, we will fight with shovels, because the existence of Ukraine is at stake."
