According to the Institute of Demography and Quality of Life Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the population of Ukraine may decrease to 26 million people in the next 25,2 years.
About this reports said in the project of the Demographic Development Strategy of Ukraine, which is published on the website of the Ministry of Social Policy.
As of August 2023, the population of Ukraine amounted to 36,3 million people, of which 31,5 million live in territories controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.
According to analysts, the average life expectancy decreased because of the war. In particular, in 2020, the average life expectancy of men was A recognition of colleagues in 66,4, 2023 – A recognition of colleagues in 57,3. Women in 2020 lived on average A recognition of colleagues in 76,2, 2023 – A recognition of colleagues in 70,9.
Beside this, 6 млн mostly women and children are currently in forced emigration. And the birth rate has decreased compared to 2021 on 45%.
Under the inertial scenario, taking into account the current demographic situation, without the introduction of additional instruments of influence, the population of Ukraine may decrease by 2041 up to 28,9 million people, and by 2051 - up to 25,2 million.
The Ministry of Social Policy proposes to adopt the Demographic Development Strategy of Ukraine, developed taking into account Ukrainian and international experience, which is designed to ensure a decent level and quality of life for every Ukrainian, to create conditions for the return of Ukrainian citizens from abroad and the reproduction of the population.
The implementation of this Strategy will allow improving the parameters of demographic dynamics: according to this option, the population of Ukraine will be as of January 1, 2041 33,9 million people, on January 1, 2051 – 31,6 million people.
