The Czech Republic will provide financial assistance to Ukrainian refugees who decide to return to Ukraine. This is stated in the updated Lex Ukraine law, which was signed by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, on Friday, December 22. The relevant information was published on site of the President of the Czech Republic on Friday, December 22.
The key provision of the amendment provides for the extension of temporary protection for citizens of Ukraine in the Czech Republic until March 2025, in accordance with the decision of the Council of the European Union.
At the same time, the law also provides for the provision of financial support to refugees with the status of temporary protection during their return to Ukraine. The size of this support has yet to be determined by the Czech government.
Refugees will be able to apply for such assistance only once and no later than three months before the end of the right to stay in the Czech Republic thanks to temporary protection, i.e. until the end of 2024.
If these people later want to get a long-term visa in the Czech Republic, they will first have to pay back half of the amount given to them by the Czech government to return home.
