The head of the Defense Ministry's GUR, Kirill Budanov, hopes that a large-scale prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia will take place next week. Budanov stated this on the air of a national telethon.
According to him, the Ukrainian side is already working on lists of those who could be returned during a possible exchange.
"I hope it will happen next week. There will be an exchange according to the lists, whoever we can take, we will take. And give it back in the same way," — said Budanov.
The head of the GUR was also asked whether he sees real prospects for a possible exchange.
"I don't see any particular problems with this," — Budanov answered.
As a reminder, negotiations between representatives of Ukraine and Russia took place in Istanbul on May 16. For more than an hour, the participants discussed issues related to a possible end to the war.
After the meeting, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, reported that the parties were considering the option of exchanging prisoners of war according to the "1000 for 1000" scheme.
