White House announces progress in talks with Russia in Riyadh, media reports

The administration of US President Donald Trump positively assesses the results of negotiations between delegations from Washington and Moscow in Saudi Arabia regarding the proposal for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the Black Sea. This is reported by Reuters.

One-day talks between US and Russian representatives in Riyadh ended on Monday evening (Kyiv time). They focused on a “narrow” proposal for a ceasefire at sea between Ukrainian and Russian forces.

This is part of a diplomatic effort by the White House, which official Washington hopes will help pave the way for broader peace negotiations and, in the long run, an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war.

A Reuters source at the White House said progress had been made in talks in the Saudi capital and a "positive announcement" was expected "in the near future."

As the Russian propaganda news agency RIA Novosti reported, the Moscow delegation, when asked about their mood after the talks, replied: "Good."

A Russian source told Reuters that the talks concluded late on Monday, and a draft joint statement has been sent to Moscow and Washington for approval, with the sides aiming to publish it as early as Tuesday.

Earlier, Russian media reported that Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, stated that no documents would be signed.

US President Donald Trump on March 24 listed other issues he said were on the table. He said, "We're talking about territory, we're talking about lines of demarcation, we're talking about control, ownership of the power plant."
