Roscosmos reported on Sunday that communication with the automatic interplanetary station "Luna-25" was interrupted more than a day ago. The location of the device is unknown. The corporation believes that the ship "entered an uncalculated orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the moon."
As early as Saturday, August 19, an emergency situation occurred with the apparatus and it went into an unpredictable orbit around the Moon while approaching the Earth's satellite.
The Russian spacecraft was preparing for a soft landing near the south pole of the Moon, which was supposed to take place approximately on Monday, August 21. But something went wrong and the connection with the device was interrupted.
Specialists from "Roscosmos" tried in the evening of August 19 and in the morning of August 20 to find out the reasons for the unforeseen situation and establish communication with the Luna-25 apparatus. All these attempts were unsuccessful.
Roscosmos stated that an "unusual situation" occurred during the transition of the Luna-25 station to the pre-landing orbit.
"According to the flight program, at 14:10 p.m., an impulse was issued for the station's transfer to the pre-landing orbit. During the operation, an extraordinary situation occurred on board the station, which prevented the maneuver with the specified parameters. Specialists of the management group are conducting an analysis of the situation," Roscosmos said in a statement.
Some users of the Russian segment of the Internet have already assumed that something very serious actually happened with this landing module, because otherwise the information about the breakdown would not have been made public. Some people even suggested that, in fact, you can forget about "Luna-25", because the landing module, most likely, is no longer working.
As it turned out, these predictions turned out to be correct. According to the message of the Russian space agency, the Luna-25 device deviated from the given orbit during the approach to the Moon and crashed on the surface of our satellite.
Now a special commission is being created in the Russian Federation to find out the causes of the disaster.
