The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ukraine has been ordered to suspend all projects and spending on them, following an order from the US State Department to halt aid programs to other countries for 90 days for an audit.

USAID in Ukraine supports the reconstruction of schools, the provision of medical services, and the repair of a critical energy system.

In general, Ukrainian organizations receive letters regarding the need to suspend activities funded by USAID or organizations dependent on American funding.

In particular, Veteran Hub co-founder Ivona Kostyna announced on Facebook on January 26 that the organization was forced to close the Veterans Support Line and the Hub in Vinnytsia. She called on businesses to support the project.

On January 25, President Zelensky announced that the State Department directive did not apply to military aid to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the FT writes that diplomats from the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the US State Department have asked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to completely exclude Ukraine from the directive, which came into effect on Friday, January 25.

On January 20, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order temporarily suspending all US foreign assistance programs for 90 days pending a review to determine whether they are aligned with his policy goals. The Pentagon said this did not apply to military aid to Ukraine.

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is a US agency for international development, founded in 1961. It has regional missions in Central and Southern Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe.

According to the USAID Ukraine website, since the start of the full-scale war on February 24, 2022, the agency has provided Kyiv with $2,6 billion in humanitarian assistance and $5 billion in development assistance. Another $30 billion has been allocated in the form of direct budget support.

In total, the agency invests in and supports 29 different areas in 158 countries around the world. These include economic growth and trade, humanitarian aid, education, energy, infrastructure, technology, and more.
