The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Elon Musk's company Neuralink to conduct clinical trials on humans. This was reported by the company on its Twitter account on Thursday, May 25.
"We are pleased to announce that we have received FDA approval to begin human clinical trials! This is the result of the incredible work of the Neuralink team in close cooperation with the FDA and is an important first step that will somehow allow our technology to help many people," the company wrote on the social network.
Neuralink said that in the near future they will announce the recruitment of participants for the first clinical trials.
Elon Musk stated that the revolutionary brain implant produced by the company will help in overcoming paralysis and blindness.
Musk envisions that brain implants could cure a range of diseases, including obesity, autism, depression and schizophrenia, as well as enable web browsing and telepathy. He made headlines late last year when he said he was so confident in the devices' safety that he would be willing to implant them in his children.
At least four times since 2019, Musk has predicted that Neuralink will begin human trials. But the company applied for permission for similar tests to the US FDA only in early 2022, but then the agency rejected the application.
