Chinese scientists have developed a microwave weapon, the TPG1000Cs, capable of disabling Starlink satellites and other objects in low Earth orbit. This was reported by South China Morning Post.
The development of the Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, has a capacity of 20 GW and is capable of generating pulses for a record minute.
While previous systems could only operate continuously for three seconds, the TPG1000Cs can deliver up to 3,000 high-energy pulses in a single session. Such a ground-based system could disrupt or damage satellites in low Earth orbit, including Starlink satellites.
The system is quite compact: its length is four meters and its weight is five tons. Such dimensions allow the installation to be installed on trucks, warships, airplanes and even satellites.
It is noted that if China deploys TPG1000Cs directly into space, “its stealth strikes will become even more deadly and harder to detect.”
