For the first time in four years, the American manufacturer Apple dropped out of the top five smartphone sellers in China, and the iPhone gave way to models from Chinese phone manufacturers, in particular Huawei. About this reported the Financial Times.
In the second quarter of 2024, the iPhone share in China fell from 16% to 14%. In total, Apple shipped 9,7 million smartphones and took sixth place according to this indicator. In the second quarter of 2023, the company was in third place.
The top five manufacturers in terms of smartphone shipments in China include Vivo (13,1 million), Oppo (11,3 million), Honor (10,7 million), Huawei (10,6 million) and Xiaomi (10 million).
At the same time, smartphone shipments in China increased by 8,9% year-on-year to 71,6 million units. Growth was recorded for the third quarter in a row.
"Apple's decline this year (in the first half of 2024 - ed.) goes beyond simple seasonality, but is a direct consequence of increased competition from Huawei, the only major player in the premium segment besides Apple," Nabila Popal, director of research at IDC, said.
