Canadian company Eavor Technologies presented eVinci micronuclear reactor, capable of operating for up to eight years without refueling. The development is intended for autonomous power supply of remote regions, industrial facilities and military bases. Its compact size and modular design allow the reactor to be transported in a standard container and quickly deployed without the need for large-scale infrastructure.
eVinci uses a solid fuel coolant, which ensures stable operation without the risk of overheating and the need for liquid cooling. This significantly reduces the likelihood of accidents and increases operational safety. The reactor power varies from 1 to 5 megawatts, making it suitable for small settlements and enterprises with an average level of electricity consumption.
The main advantage of the technology is its autonomy: after launch, eVinci can operate without operator intervention for eight years. At the end of the cycle, the spent fuel remains in a sealed case, which facilitates its disposal and transportation to specialized storage facilities. Thanks to this feature, micronuclear reactors can be located in environmentally sensitive regions without significant environmental impact.
The developers claim that eVinci can provide a cost-effective alternative to diesel generators, which are widely used in remote areas. The operating costs of such a reactor are significantly lower because it does not require a regular supply of fuel. In addition, the absence of carbon emissions makes it more environmentally friendly compared to traditional energy sources.
The first commercial eVinci models are expected to be in service by 2030. The technology is currently undergoing certification in Canada and the United States.
