The European Union wants to attract €200 billion in private and public investment to develop the artificial intelligence industry in Europe, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced at the Global Artificial Intelligence Summit in Paris. write Business Times.

She stressed that the EU is ready to allocate €50 billion, with the rest planned to be raised from investors, suppliers and other industry representatives. According to her, the race for AI is far from over, so the EU wants to accelerate innovation.

€20 billion is planned to be spent on 4 AI Gigafactories to enable open collaborative development of the most complex AI models. Initial funding will be drawn from existing programs with a digital component.

Von der Leyen added that the EU wants to make its supercomputer available to the best startups and scientists.

“We want artificial intelligence to be a force for good. AI requires competition, but AI also requires cooperation,” Leyen noted.

The European Commission will also create a European AI Research Council, where Europe can pool resources and explore how it can harness the untapped potential of data to support AI and other technologies.

The “Apply AI” initiative will be launched later this year, promoting the industrial adoption of artificial intelligence in key sectors.
