Google wants to stop Microsoft and OpenAI cloud computing deal

Google

Google has formally appealed to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) with a request to terminate the exclusive agreement between Microsoft and OpenAI to host artificial intelligence technologies on the servers of the technology giant. About this write Reuters.

The conflict arose due to the fundamental issue of monopolization of the market of cloud AI technologies. Under the terms of the current agreement, companies that purchase OpenAI technologies through Microsoft may face additional financial costs if they do not use the corporation's servers.

The FTC has already launched a broad antitrust investigation into Microsoft, its software licensing and cloud computing businesses. The company is accused of abusing market power in the field of software. Previous research points to systemic limitations for other market players.

Microsoft management has suggested that the FTC conduct an internal review of possible leaks of information about the antitrust investigation.

Microsoft has also been accused of unfairly overcharging customers of rival UK cloud companies. The lawsuit seeks over $1,27 billion in damages.
