Zelensky: Putin is fighting for his life in Ukraine, not for his country

Volodymyr Zelenskyi

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, expressed confidence in the country's ability to repel the Russian invasion, and talked about the preparation of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Zelenskyi said this in an interview with the newspaper Al Arabiya.

Answering a question about the situation in Ukraine, Zelenskyi admitted that it is difficult, but emphasized that his country is fighting and getting stronger. "I can't describe the situation as good, but we are struggling," he said. "We are stronger than we were a year ago."

The president also emphasized that Ukrainians are united for the sake of victory. "We hope and believe that our daily gains bring us closer to victory," Zelenskyy said, adding that Ukrainians are committed to the return of their occupied lands and the development of their country.

He also noted that the Ukrainian army is preparing for a counterattack against Russian troops, downplaying the impact of documents released by the US on this counteroffensive. "Our army is preparing and we are doing everything we can to make it stronger."

Volodymyr Zelenskyi also talked about the difficult situation in Bakhmut. Despite the fact that some analysts argue that the city has no strategic value, Zelenskyi has repeatedly insisted that Ukraine will not give up Bakhmut.

"It is impossible for us to give up Bakhmut, because it will help to expand the battle front and give Russian troops a chance to seize more of our lands."

President Zelensky thanked the allies for their support, but noted that they also support themselves by helping Ukraine.

"The truth is that Russia will not stop at Ukraine, and this is clear to everyone," he said, adding that Ukraine can stop Russia.

"As for our allies, support us because, first of all, it's a small price you have to pay because Russia will go further," he said, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin is fighting for his life in Ukraine, and not for his country.
