In order to return to the negotiating table with Russia, Ukraine needs to receive security guarantees. This will help deter Moscow's repeated aggression in the future. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in interview Polish media.
"Ukraine is not having any behind-the-scenes talks with Russia. This is not in our interests. Because for us, losing the trust of our partners is a big risk. For me, it is important to preserve the alliance between our partners," - said the head of state.
According to Zelensky, the war can be ended diplomatically, as it involves "fewer victims and less time."
"The main thing is that you can stop this hellish story. This requires desire. Even if one partner, such as the Russian Federation, does not want to, you can use the formula we are talking about - peace through force, when partners unite and force the occupiers to dialogue. We are talking about dialogue. Today, this is not happening yet," said the president.
Zelensky stressed that Ukraine needs security guarantees before turning to diplomacy. In his opinion, only security guarantees can deter renewed aggression by the Russian Federation and dictator Vladimir Putin.
"You can just talk about a ceasefire and give the Russians a pass to prepare for occupation, as was the case between 2014 and 2022. Therefore, it is important what security guarantees will be for Ukraine, where is our NATO, where is our weapons, where is our support, etc. I have a very simple question, for example, we are not yet in NATO and diplomacy has gone, the million-strong army that is in Ukraine, now partners are helping, where will we find the money later to maintain the million-strong army? It is a fact, if you do not have NATO, there is no support, air defense, a general fleet, you must rely only on yourself," he declared.
