Since May 27, on the border of Iran and Afghanistan started combat clashes between Iranian border guards and the Taliban. The clash came after Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi warned against violating the country's water rights in the Helmand River.
About the causes and consequences of this conflict in your Telegram channel write Oleksandr Kovalenko, military and political columnist of the "Information Resistance" group.
According to the expert, the very fact of the conflict is great news for Ukraine — why? In order to fully understand what is happening, Oleksandr Kovalenko recommends going back a few years to 2015. Latent support of this terrorist organization by Russia began in 2015, the goal of which was to oust the United States from the region.
In December 2015, the special representative of the Russian president for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, called on a coalition of Western countries to cooperate with the Taliban, allegedly with the aim of fighting ISIS. In the same period, the Russian side is actively raising the issue of lifting sanctions on the Taliban.
In 2016, Russia deployed large-scale financial and military support to the Taliban, sending them weapons through Tajikistan, as reported by the head of US forces in Afghanistan, General John Nicholson. In particular, joint exercises of Tajikistan and Russia were used for this.
After conducting exercises, Russian units near the Afghan border simply left ammunition, weapons and even equipment, which were then taken away by the Taliban without hindrance. In this way, Russia supplied the Taliban with weapons for several years.
In 2017, the Russian Foreign Ministry launched a campaign to legitimize the Taliban terrorist group as a political force. In December 2017, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov openly admitted that Russia was in contact with the Taliban.
On November 9, 2018, as part of the "Moscow format" of consultations on Afghanistan, established in 2017, a closed meeting of deputy foreign ministers, special representatives and observers, as well as representatives of the Taliban movement was held in the "President Hotel" in Moscow.
On August 15, 2021, all Russian "experts", "political scientists", "journalists" and "politicians" triumphed when the Taliban captured Kabul. At the same time, Russia's CSTO partners were concerned about the security of their territories on the border with Afghanistan, in particular, the Taliban's supply channel, Tajikistan.
On September 22, 2021, the first supporters of the Taliban were detained in Yekaterinburg (Russia), who were preparing a series of terrorist attacks on the territory of the country, and on the border of Tajikistan, not only did the Taliban provocations begin.
And so, outside the window is May 2023, and the Taliban, who have been nurtured by Russia for years, declare war on Iran.
"In my opinion, this is wonderful and I will be glad if these threats do not remain banal belligerent air shocks. The involvement of Iran in an unexpected conflict and even war, especially against such an adversary as the Taliban, could seriously distract Tehran from its cooperation with Russia.
For more than six months now, we have been discussing retaliation against Iran, for its support of Russia and, in fact, its participation in the murder of Ukrainians. And, no matter how strange it may seem, "help" in the matter of retribution came from where no one expected," the expert notes.
This story is yet another proof that Russia does not learn even from its own mistakes. The lack of a professional school of analysis and strategy leads to the fact that, for the sake of instant victories, Russia traditionally loses on the global stage.
