Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko held a meeting with key representatives of the petroleum products market, during which the parties coordinated further actions against the background of the current situation in the fuel market.
"Our common task is to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability in the country. The government expects that market operators — both the state-owned company Ukrnafta and private companies — will ensure proper fuel supply to the market and its stable availability to consumers throughout the country," — noted Sviridenko.
The Prime Minister emphasized that fuel prices should be formed in accordance with the situation on world markets, but without domestic speculation.
"Fuel prices should be formed fairly, taking into account the current situation, in particular on world markets, but without internal speculation. Ukrnafta will serve as a benchmark for fair prices on the market," — she said.
The government also instructed regulatory bodies to closely monitor the situation on the market. This includes, in particular, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and the State Service for the Supervision of Food and Consumer Protection of Ukraine, which must respond to possible price speculation.
"Controlling bodies should properly monitor the price situation and respond to cases of possible speculation in the market. At the same time, it is important that their work does not create unreasonable pressure or obstacles to bona fide business," — the Prime Minister emphasized.
A separate task was given to the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal. He must ensure daily coordination with market representatives based at the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine to promptly resolve current issues arising in the work of operators.
In addition, on behalf of the government, the Minister of Economy Oleksiy Sobolev, together with the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, is working on possible support models for categories of consumers who may be most affected by the increase in prices for petroleum products.
