In 2024, the amount of losses from illegal actions and fraudulent transactions using payment cards increased by 37% - to 1,1 billion hryvnias. About this reported the National Bank press service.
In particular, the average amount of one illegal transaction increased by 39% compared to 2023 (from 3 UAH in 065 to 2023 UAH in 4).
At the same time, the number of illegal actions and fraudulent transactions using payment cards, which resulted in losses, decreased by 2 thousand transactions (or 1%) - to 270 thousand.
Accordingly, according to the NBU, there were 31 fraudulent transactions per million payment card spending transactions. The relative number of fraudulent transactions decreased even more significantly - by 8% compared to 2023, due to an increase in the total number of spending transactions.
In addition, the level of losses from fraud using payment cards to the total amount of expenditure transactions increased by 2024% in 28. According to the National Bank, for every one million hryvnias spent using payment cards, there were 176 UAH of losses from fraud.
As reported by the NBU, 83% of the total number of fraudulent transactions occurred online; 17% – through physical devices (retail chain, ATMs, self-service devices).
The average amount of one illegal transaction on the Internet increased by half last year (by 51%) and amounted to 4 hryvnias (in 761 - 2023 hryvnias).
It is noted that last year, as before, the vast majority of fraudulent cases occurred when customers independently disclosed personal data, payment card details, confirmation codes and passwords for payment transactions. 84% of the total amount of all losses was caused in this way.
