Russians have become worse at paying off credit card debts: as of May 31, payments on 8,3 million credit cards were overdue by more than 90 days or more, write Russian Forbes, citing data from the Scoring Bureau.
According to published data, the total debt on such cards amounted to 575,9 billion rubles.
In general, credit cards with different terms of overdue now account for over 12% of the total issued by banks, and debts on them have reached 11,3%. This is a consequence of the credit boom, when banks handed out expensive credit cards to Russians, as well as the general increase in the debt burden of Russians, experts remind.
In their opinion, the peak of delinquencies is still ahead: those with loans are looking for opportunities to refinance, but many channels for them have already been closed by Central Bank regulations.
"The fact that Russians are rapidly defaulting on credit cards is also noted by other credit bureaus. For example, the United Credit Bureau (UKB) estimated the number of bank customers who had not paid on cards for more than 30 days at 2025 million at the beginning of 2,35 and noted the deterioration of payment discipline of cardholders," – the publication says.
