The yuan overtook the euro to become the second major currency in trade for the first time in history. According to the results of September, the share of Chinese currency in the total volume of payments through SWIFT increased to a maximum value of 5,8%, "jumping" by 1% in just one month.
The share of the Chinese currency in international payments increased from 4,82% in August 2023 to 5,8% in September, which is the maximum during the last five years during which statistics are kept.
The dollar, as before, retains the first place in trade calculations: in September, its share increased to 84,15% compared to 83,95% a month earlier.
The euro ranks third in terms of popularity in international payments. In September, its share decreased to 5,43% from 6,43% in August.
The Japanese yen ranks fourth, its share increased from 1,28% in August to 1,4% in September. It is followed by the Saudi riyal with a share of 0,56% in September compared to 0,63% in August.
