IT specialists of Ukraine are returning to their cities

According to the results of 2022, Odesa is still among the TOP-5 cities of Ukraine in terms of the number of employees in the IT industry. Today, 4% of Ukrainian IT residents live and work in Odesa. This is reported by the publication DOU.

With the beginning of the war, many IT specialists moved to other cities in western Ukraine or abroad. But over the past six months, people began to return: Kyiv and the region: in the summer, 33% of specialists lived here, now - 43%. In Dnipro and the region, 7% now live against 6% in the summer, in Odesa and the region — 4% against 3% in the summer, in Kharkiv — 3% against 2% in the summer.

Mostly those who sought refuge in the western regions of the country because of the war are returning. Half a year ago, 21% of IT specialists were in Lviv and the region, today - 19%. The share of Aitivites in Ivano-Frankivsk region decreased from 5% to 4%.

Decent salaries allow IT specialists to actively donate funds to the Armed Forces. 86% of specialists from Odesa noted that they regularly contribute to various volunteer initiatives.

"Every tenth e-tishnik is in the cyber forces or helps state projects on a volunteer basis. The Ministry of Digital was the first to announce the creation of the IT army, later volunteers began to join other projects, the number of which today is estimated at hundreds. In addition, state departments have significantly strengthened their full-time IT departments: the police, the Security Service of Ukraine, the defense sector, and ministries.", - says the head of EPAM's southern office, Serhii Harashchuk.

At the beginning of January this year, the total amount of taxes and fees paid by the IT business to the country's budget is 32,2 billion hryvnias, which is 16% higher than last year's figure.

Market of IT specialists. According to the analysis of last year, the number of experienced specialists has decreased to today: in the summer of 2022, 43% of them had Senior+ titles, and now - 39%. At the same time, the share of newcomers has hardly changed: if a year ago there were 10% of specialists with up to a year of experience, now they are 9%. Sales specialists (2022% of them have up to a year of experience), HTML coders (30%), Customer Success (25%) and Game Developers (23%) were the most likely to start a career in IT in 18.

In general, according to the place of work - 14% of Ukrainian specialists currently live abroad, but plan to return to Ukraine, 86% - are in Ukraine.

Income. The biggest change for 2022 is in Product Manager salaries, which have returned to last December's level ($3500, +$700). The median Project Manager salary increased slightly ($2100, +$100). After a significant drop in the summer of 2022, Data Scientists salaries have leveled off somewhat ($2500, +$200). The compensation of designers increased by the same amount ($1700, +$200). Salaries for business analysts and data analysts decreased by $100.
