The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, confirmed that the European Union is currently working on a new, 12th, package of sanctions against Russia. She said this at a press conference in Brussels.
"We are in the process of preparing the 12th package of sanctions against Russia. We hold consultations with EU member states. We are considering how to reduce the remaining income that Russia receives from diamond exports to Europe and its partners.", - said the President of the European Commission.
According to her, the work on the new package of sanctions is being done jointly with the G7 countries.
In addition, the EU wants to strengthen the effectiveness of already introduced measures against the Russian Federation, von der Leyen added.
According to the media, the countries of the Group of Seven will announce a mechanism to limit the import of Russian diamonds by the end of October, after which the European Union will immediately finalize the proposal for the 12th package of sanctions against Russia.
