Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Tax Policy Danylo Hetmantsev currently sees no reason to increase the value added tax. However, he did not exclude that such a need may appear in the future.
"Currently, we see that there is no reason to increase VAT, but we do not rule out that they will appear in the future... And this future may be in a month or later... A suitable proposal from the government may appear. Without her, we won't do anything." - said Hetmantsev in an interview with Ukrainian News.
According to him, in this matter, the authorities should proceed from the position of the government and the funds it needs to finance the army.
"This is actually the only justification for whether to increase VAT. As a resource, from the point of view of public finance, it is the right source and it is the least harmful of all those still left on the table. Therefore, as a resource, we can use it. At the same time, on the other hand, whether it is needed at all or not is for the government to decide." - said the People's Deputy.
Hetmantsev added that the tax changes voted by the Council in the first reading are enough for now.
"But we have to remember not only the needs until the end of the year, but also for the next year, where we still do not have 100% confidence in attracting all the amounts of foreign aid that we will need." - added the people's deputy.
